A week spent with electricity, special investigations, customers and the Sahara

The third business that LYDEC is involved in is street lighting. And so we set off to follow the teams on the ground. Street lighting is of vital importance, particularly for safety reasons.

Then came the fourth LYDEC business: electricity. This activity accounts for 75% of its revenue and Casablanca’s supply infrastructure is undeniably impressive.

Thursday: we stepped behind the counter to see how customer business is dealt with at the branch – at top speed.

We then visited an industrial zone where a team was adding an outgoing cable to safeguard distribution for neighbouring companies.

We ended up at the Fraud and Recovery department. Here are Aziz and Said, two LYDEC officers in charge of investigations, who provide proof by looking for evidence on the ground. Here we are with Casablanca’s experts. Thank you to everyone we met this week for their hospitality.

At the weekend we head to Ouarzazate in Morocco’s far south, where a change of scenery is guaranteed. Here are the Draa Valley and the ancient kasbahs of the town of Tinghir overlooking the palm groves, with the 4,000 metre Higher Atlas mountains visible in the background.

After five hours crossing the Anti-Atlas mountain range and desert plains, we finally arrive in Merzouga, an outpost of the Sahara. It is vast, peaceful and simply magnificent. Thank you to Distrigas (Boston, MA), for the GDF SUEZ polar wear!
