Taking a walk at a tanker terminal

07/04/2011

Discovering the Fos-Tonkin and Fos-Cavaou tanker terminals!

ET-terminal

Before starting the visit, let’s stop to spend some time on a diagram of how a tanker terminal works.

A tanker terminal transforms liquified natural gas (LNG) into natural gas. Several stages must take place in order for this to occur (blue path on the diagram). First, the LNG is extracted from tanks on the tanker vessel using unloading arms, and is then transferred to reservoirs. Afterwards, it is pumped, its pressure increased, and it arrives in the gasifiers where it is turned from liquid into gas. After being odorized, it is sent to the gas transportation network.

Throughout the process, the LNG (at -160°C) evaporates. It must therefore be disposed of or turned back into liquid and reintroduced into the LNG flow (red path on the diagram).

Now that we have provided this brief explanation, we want to take you on a walk through the Fos-Tonkin and Fos-Cavaou tanker terminals via our picture presentation. This way for the visit!
