Monday January 24

Behind the scenes of the “Splendors of the Atacama desert“, at sunset over the Valley of the Moon.

Tuesday January 25

Antofagasta, Chile’s second city (285,000 inhabitants), is squeezed between the mountains and the ocean. A large part of the population work in the mining industry, which is very intensive in the north of the country.

Wednesday January 26

We visit the Mejillones gas terminal. It was built by GDF SUEZ when Argentina stopped supplying Chile with gas and was commissioned in summer 2010.

Thursday January 27

We return to Mejillones to visit the LNG tank. As the halt in gas supply from Argentina was so sudden, the most urgent things had to be dealt with first, so the gas tank is actually… a ship! The BW GDF SUEZ Brussels is permanently berthed.

Friday January 28

A day of work on e-mails and videos in Antofagasta.

Saturday January 29

We spend the weekend at Puertecillo beach, a few hours by road from Santiago. At nightfall the local sport is crab-fishing. This involves running between two waves to try to hurl the crab out of the water by hand or with a stick. It has to be said that Marc ran a lot and Laure took a lot of photos, but neither of us caught a crab!

Sunday January 30

Sunset over the Pacific then straight back to Santiago.
